Osseous surgery (or pocket reduction surgery) is designed to remove the disease-causing bacteria and to recontour the underlying bone in order to reduce the deformities caused by periodontal disease. This procedure results in reduced pocket depths so that the periodontal disease can be controlled and the teeth can be maintained over time. The two examples below represent the long-term successful results of osseous surgery followed by proper maintenance care.
